Hello! My Name’s Ashley!
I'm a self-taught illustrator originally from Minnesota. Much of my work is inspired by the rural Midwest as well as mid-century illustrators. I have a great love of learning and science, and that sometimes spills over into my work. My illustrations feature a retro style, nature, graphite lines, and cute characters. I work in traditional materials such as gouache, graphite, acrylic gouache, and acrylic paint markers.
Some illustrators who inspire my work would include: Rebecca Green, Carrie Shyrock, Tom Haugomat, Sophia Blackall, Robert McCloskey, E.H. Shephard, Leonard Weisgard, Eloise Wilkin, Pauline Baynes, and Mary Blair. I love to create a sense of nostalgia, and childhood magic in my work, something between Brambly Hedge, Little House on the Prairie, Narnia, and Winnie the Pooh. Some of my all time favorite Illustrated books would be the Little House on the Prairie books illustrated by Garth Williams, Locomotive by Brian Floca, The Golden Nature Guide to Stars, A Day on the Farm illustrated by John. P. Miller, Fup illustrated by Tom Haugomat, and I Can Fly illustrated by Mary Blair.
