A Summer Outside
We're not missing out by taking it slowly
People talk about summer afternoons as being the most wonderful experience but for me it’s summer evenings that hold the most Sehnsucht feeling of summer. The grass clippings at the edge of the patio along with the smell of fresh cut grass. The milky white moths coming out and flitting from grass top to grass top. The sunlight golden and warm on haybales and barns. The purple-y light pink of the sky. The cumulus clouds rising or drifting past in the distance, golden yellow or dramatically white with the full sunlight still reaching them so high. The birds flying around in little flocks and singing the evening choirs. The cicadas droning from the trees. The moon full in a blue sky. The smell of the earth on a summer evening is nearly unmatched. The trees in the east on fire from the sun so low to the horizon, or maybe just the tops of the trees red and yellow and the rest dark green. And the green. Everything is green in the summer. It’s soothing to the eye. Grass-blade green. Clover green. Oak green. Maple green. Pine green. Poplar green. Fern green. Ivy green. Weeds green. So much green, so many greens. It’s extraordinary that so much of the same color can be so interesting to look at. But there’s subtleties and change in all of it. The trees are always changing color. Every hour. But perhaps in most dramatic fashion in the evenings and in the mornings. And the feeling all of this brings is fleeting and beautiful and something I want to capture in my work. The best I can do to describe it is that it feelsright. And wholesome. These words come to mind: Sehnsucht: an inconsolable, wistful yearning or longing for something inexpressible. A sweet, piercing desire for a faraway, transcendent home we have yet to reach. And Nostalgic. Which for me is warm memories from the past.
Might I also add that it is quite wonderful to live summer simply. That is how it was for me and my siblings growing up. My mom didn’t plan a busy schedule, not every day did we have an agenda and because of that we had plenty of time to just go outside and play. We had so much fun day after day marking forts under the giant pines and playing “village” a.k.a. building houses, finding food or making food, and finding things to sell to each other. My little spiel is just to say that I feel like we live in a rush culture and we are told that we must always be jampacked busy and keep our kids jampacked busy otherwise they’ll be missing out. When really it’s the other way around. There are so many simple things to be enjoyed. like running through sprinklers, eating popsicles, climbing trees, picking wildflower bouquets, eating on the back patio, keeping a nature journal, or going on a walk.
So anyway here’s some artwork that’s inspired from summer evenings.
Thank you for reading! See ya next time!
P.s I’m making Christmas cards so stay tuned to see when those will be available! ;)

It All Begins Here
Confidence doesn’t always arrive with a bold entrance. Sometimes, it builds quietly, step by step, as we show up for ourselves day after day. It grows when we choose to try, even when we’re unsure of the outcome. Every time you take action despite self-doubt, you reinforce the belief that you’re capable. Confidence isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about trusting that you can figure it out along the way.
The key to making things happen isn’t waiting for the perfect moment; it’s starting with what you have, where you are. Big goals can feel overwhelming when viewed all at once, but momentum builds through small, consistent action. Whether you’re working toward a personal milestone or a professional dream, progress comes from showing up — not perfectly, but persistently. Action creates clarity, and over time, those steps forward add up to something real.
You don’t need to be fearless to reach your goals, you just need to be willing. Willing to try, willing to learn, and willing to believe that you’re capable of more than you know. The road may not always be smooth, but growth rarely is. What matters most is that you keep going, keep learning, and keep believing in the version of yourself you’re becoming.
